Iran Threatens Retaliation Against US Attacks by Targeting Regional Energy Facilities

The Iranian military has warned that it will expand the scope of its attacks to various energy facilities across the region if the United States carries out aggression against Tehran’s strategic infrastructure.

The warning was issued by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters on Wednesday evening (22/7) amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington.

In its statement, the military headquarters asserted that if the United States follows through on its threat, Iran will respond by targeting the energy sector in the region.

“Not a single drop of oil will be allowed to be exported,” the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters declared.

The Iranian military also stated that oil, gas, electricity and economic infrastructure across the region would become targets should the conflict continue to escalate.

Furthermore, Iran reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. The military warned that no vessels would be permitted to pass through the strategic shipping lane except via routes designated in accordance with previously announced procedures.

In the same statement, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters also cautioned that any threat or military action by the United States would only widen the scope of the conflict.

According to the statement, the escalation could spread across the entire region and even further afield.

Tensions between the two countries have continued to rise since the United States launched a series of attacks on several areas of Iran last week.

In retaliation, Tehran has intensified its attacks on facilities and bases claimed to be used by the American military in a number of countries across the Middle East.

The armed clashes are still ongoing, even though the United States and Iran previously signed a framework agreement mediated by Pakistan in June.

The agreement was designed to end the conflict that began in February, whilst also paving the way for a more permanent peace treaty.
