Iran Threatens 'Devastating' Retaliation if US Bombs Power Plants: An Eye for an Eye!
Iranian authorities have responded to the latest threat from United States (US) President Donald Trump, who asserted he would bombard bridges or power plants in Tehran for every commercial vessel attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has stressed that any US attack on infrastructure in Iran will trigger a ‘devastating and decisive’ retaliatory response. Iran also warned that countries supporting US bombing of infrastructure on their territory would be considered legitimate targets.
Iran’s warning, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Thursday (23/7/2026), was delivered by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a post on social media platform X on Wednesday (22/7) local time. Araghchi stated that Iran’s defence doctrine is based on the principle of ‘an eye for an eye’. ‘Our defence doctrine is very clear: an eye for an eye,’ Araghchi stressed in his statement directed at the US. ‘Any aggression against Iran, including against our infrastructure, will trigger a devastating and decisive response,’ the Iranian Foreign Minister said. Araghchi also warned countries that assist the US in launching attacks against Iran. ‘Parties that contribute to such aggression, in whatever form of support, will also be considered legitimate targets,’ he stated.
In a separate statement late on Wednesday (22/7), the Iranian military’s central command headquarters, Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, threatened to target energy facilities across the Middle East region if the US attacks Iranian infrastructure. The Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stressed that if Washington realises its threats, the Iranian Armed Forces ‘will not allow the export of even a single drop of oil’. Oil, gas, electricity, and economic facilities throughout the region, the Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters asserted, will become targets of attack. The headquarters also stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, and no ships are permitted to transit the strategic waterway except via routes established according to previously announced procedures. Furthermore, the Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that continued US threats and actions will only expand the scope of the conflict ‘to the entire region and even beyond’.
Trump, in his latest statement via Truth Social, threatened to bomb infrastructure in Iran if the country continues to attack commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. ‘From now on, every time the Islamic Republic of Iran fires on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether using missiles, rockets, drones, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those located near or within the Capital City of Tehran,’ Trump said in his threat. The exchange of threats between Iran and the US reflects escalating tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, following ongoing disputes regarding navigation arrangements and security in the waterway vital for global oil and gas supplies.
