The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that its forces targeted a US airbase used to attack Iranian territory on Monday morning (1 June). The IRGC claimed all designated targets were destroyed in the retaliatory strike.

Location of the targeted US airbase was not specified by the IRGC in its statement, which was broadcast by IRIB television and other Iranian state media, according to AFP and Anadolu Agency reports on Monday (1 June 2026).

However, the IRGC’s statement came after Kuwait’s military announced its air defence systems had intercepted ‘enemy missile and drone attacks’. The US is known to have military bases in various Gulf states, including Kuwait.

The IRGC, in a statement cited by Mehr News Agency, said its air force targeted and destroyed a base where US forces conducted operations against communication facilities on Sirik Island, in southern Hormozgan Province.

Sirik Island is located near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which has been impacted by the ongoing conflict between Iran, the US, and Israel since late February.

The IRGC stated the attack was launched hours after the US strikes.

The IRGC claimed all designated targets were successfully destroyed in the attack.

The IRGC also warned that further attacks would provoke a ‘different response in scale and form’, and that responsibility for any escalation would lie with the US.

There has been no immediate comment from the US government or military regarding the IRGC’s claims.

Previously, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced its forces had struck Iranian radar and drone command centres in the Goruk area and Qeshm Island on Saturday (30 May) and Sunday (31 May) local time.

CENTCOM described the US fighter jet strikes as ‘defensive actions’ in response to ‘aggressive Iranian actions, including the downing of a US MQ-1 drone operating over international waters’.
