Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran will support any decision made by Palestinian leaders during the negotiation process, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Wednesday (5/8). Earlier that day, President Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation with the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, Khalil al-Hayya. “We will support any decision made by the Palestinian leadership in the negotiation process,” Pezeshkian said, as quoted by the Tasnim news agency. The Iranian president also assured the Hamas leader that issues relating to Palestine will always be a priority in Iran’s foreign policy. On 31 July, US President Donald Trump announced that the Gaza Peace Council (BoP) had approved a deal providing for the disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in the Gaza Strip. Under the plan, Israeli forces will begin a phased withdrawal from Gaza as the disarmament process progresses. In response, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later said Israel had conveyed its concerns to the US over the plan. On 14 January, the US announced the launch of the second phase of Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza. The plan specifically provides for the delivery of at least 600 aid lorries daily, the reconstruction of Gaza’s infrastructure, and the establishment of a transitional Palestinian technocratic committee operating under the supervision of the Peace Council.
