Tehran (ANTARA) - The Iranian government has filed a lawsuit against the United States at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague over Washington’s military aggression against Iran’s nuclear facilities, the imposition of economic sanctions, and threats of military action against Iran. According to Iran’s Mizan News Agency on Tuesday, the lawsuit was submitted to the PCA in February, citing violations of the 1981 Algiers Accords and US breaches of its international commitments during the 12-day war against Iran in June 2025. The news agency affiliated with Iran’s judicial authorities stated that Iran is demanding the court to hold the US accountable for interfering in its internal affairs and to order the US government to immediately cease both direct and indirect interventions. Iran also demands that the US provide guarantees that it will not repeat such actions and pay full compensation for the damages inflicted on Iran, the report added. Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July 2015, which imposed restrictions on its nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. The US withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and reimposed sanctions, which subsequently led Iran to reduce its commitments to nuclear development. Negotiations to revive the JCPOA began in April 2021 in Vienna, but there has been no significant progress since the last round ended in August 2022. During the 12-day war between Iran and Israel, the US bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
