Iran Strikes US Military Facilities in Oman, Syria, Jordan

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Friday that Iranian military forces have destroyed American surveillance radars stationed in Oman. “This morning, IRGC naval forces targeted and destroyed a maritime surveillance radar in the Salamah area, as well as a US surveillance radar on Ghanam Island, Oman, in the 13th wave of Operation Nasr-2,” the IRGC said in a statement. The IRGC also revealed it had launched a surprise retaliatory attack against a US special operations command centre based in the At Tanf area, located in southwestern Syria. The strike destroyed “US radar systems, several special operations helicopter units, and a number of military personnel”. The IRGC added that the operation was in retaliation for a US airstrike near the city of Iranshahr in southeastern Iran. That US strike reportedly killed at least seven Iranian personnel, comprising career soldiers and conscripts. Furthermore, Iran also launched attacks using ballistic missiles and drones, which destroyed several refuelling aircraft and US fighter jets on alert in Jordan, the IRGC stated. In mid-June, the Iranian and US governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to end the military conflict between the two countries. However, since 8 July, US forces have resumed a series of attacks against Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the strikes were a response to Iranian actions against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces subsequently retaliated by launching a series of attacks against US bases in the Middle East region.
