Iran Strikes US Bases in Bahrain and Kuwait in Retaliatory Bombardment

Bahrain and Kuwait were targeted again by Iranian missile and drone attacks on Sunday (28/6/2026), in response to American strikes. On Saturday (27/6/2026), Iranian media reported attacks on Qeshm Island, near the city of Sirik, and around the port city of Bandar-e Lengeh in the south of the country. The strikes on Bahrain and Kuwait were launched shortly after a multinational maritime body led by the US Navy announced plans to expand a route in the Strait of Hormuz near Omani waters, which would allow ships to transit the strait. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it fired missiles and drones at eight US military targets in Bahrain and Kuwait in the early hours of Sunday morning, destroying infrastructure in retaliation for US attacks on military positions on the Iranian peninsula. The IRGC detailed that the Air Force and Navy conducted a joint operation at 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. local time. The IRGC warned that a violation of the ceasefire agreement, contrary to Article 1 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, had occurred and could lead to a complete halt of the diplomatic process. ‘Let the enemy know that violating the ceasefire is contrary to Article 1 of the Islamabad agreement and will result in the total cessation of all processes,’ the IRGC statement said, as quoted by Mehr News. The IRGC also signalled a stricter regime in the Strait of Hormuz. ‘From now on, the ships of criminals will face a greater force than ever before, and any aggression by the enemy under any pretext, like last night and tonight, will be met with a crushing response.’
