Iran strikes Amazon data centre in Bahrain in retaliation against US

Tehran - The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it has attacked a data centre belonging to the American commerce giant Amazon in Bahrain in response to a United States strike on the Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant construction site. “In retaliation for yesterday’s US attack on the facility under construction and civilian areas in the Darkhovin region, the IRGC launched several cruise missiles at a major data centre infrastructure belonging to the US company Amazon in Bahrain, resulting in significant damage,” the IRGC said in a press statement on Tuesday. Earlier on Sunday, media reported that the US military had struck the nuclear power plant construction site in the city of Darkhovin, Iran. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that it was investigating the reports. According to the IAEA, it was unlikely that the attack posed a radiological risk. Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum on the evening of 18 June 2026 calling for an end to the conflict that began on 28 February. However, the US military has launched several attacks against Iran since 8 July 2026. The Iranian military subsequently retaliated by launching attacks on several US military bases in Middle Eastern countries. Tehran also accused Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement. On 9 July, US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire was no longer in effect.
