Iran Shoots Down 'Enemy Aircraft' off Bushehr Coast
Iran’s air defence system reportedly intercepted and destroyed an ‘enemy aircraft’ off the coast of Bushehr Province, according to official Iranian media reports on Thursday (28 May 2026). ‘The incident tonight relates to the destruction of an enemy aircraft,’ said Jam region governor Masoud Tangestani, as reported by semi-official Tasnim news agency and Al Jazeera. Tangestani added that the situation in the city has now returned to normal and is stable. Iran’s state television station IRIB reported that the interception operation took place within the last hour. Previously, Iran’s national television confirmed that loud explosions heard hours earlier in Bushehr were from air defence system activities responding to foreign objects or aircraft. Meanwhile, Fars News Agency reported that Iran’s armed forces were observed launching several missiles from the southern part of the country towards specific targets. It is unclear whether the aircraft in question belongs to the United States or Israel, both of which are known to be in conflict with Iran. Prior to official clarification from Tehran authorities, various reports and speculation had circulated widely on social media regarding a series of explosions heard in southern provinces, including Bushehr and Hormozgan, and the city of Jam. Unverified claims even emerged that Iran had launched a series of missiles, including anti-ship cruise missiles, directly targeting US warships patrolling the Strait of Hormuz. However, state media and official military representatives quickly clarified the confusion, insisting that the loud explosions and detonations in southern Iran were solely due to military activities at sea.
