Iran: Several killed, wounded in US strike on Larak Island

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has stated that a number of military personnel and civilians were killed or wounded on Sunday evening (30/8) in a “US-Israeli” attack targeting Larak Island in southern Iran, specifically in Hormozgan Province.

In a statement published on its official news outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC vowed that the attack would be met with “punishment for the aggressor.”

Citing several unofficial reports, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency said at least two people were killed and two others wounded in what it described as a US “drone strike” on the island.

CNN, citing a US official, reported that the US military struck the island on Sunday after observing Iranian forces “preparing to launch mines into the Strait of Hormuz.”

The official said two Iranian launchers were hit in the strike, adding that “US Central Command (CENTCOM) completed the clearance of naval mines from international shipping lanes in the strategic waterway last week.”

The incident marks the first US strike against Iranian targets in more than a month.
