Iran Seeks to End War While in a Position of Strength
The war between the United States and Iran has yet to subside. However, the latest reports indicate that Iran wishes to end the war while it is in a position of strength.
Previously, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned US allies and China to support economic isolation aimed at “toppling” the Iranian government. Washington threatened severe consequences for countries that do not support the move.
“This will be the largest coordinated economic isolation in the history of the world. And we are coming to them with a message: are you with us or against us?” Bessent said in his message to US allies, as reported by AFP and TRT World.
The message was delivered by Bessent after US President Donald Trump warned that any country providing “any form of rescue assistance” to Iran would face “very severe” economic consequences.
When asked whether the US would specifically pressure China to support economic isolation against Iran, Bessent said it would be “very beneficial” if Beijing supported the move.
“We believe all parties want the Strait (of Hormuz) reopened and energy prices to fall again. It should be remembered that China obtains 50 percent of its energy supply from the Gulf region. So it would be very beneficial for them to support this move,” Bessent said.
Furthermore, the US Treasury Secretary called on other countries to support the US move or face the consequences.
“So this is the time for our allies and the entire world to make a decision. We will cripple the economy of this murderous regime, which will limit their ability to project power through their proxies,” Bessent stressed in his statement.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that it is time to end the Middle East war with the United States because Tehran is now in a stronger position than Washington.
Negotiations between the two arch-enemies remain stalled and deadlocked. Tehran continues to partially close the Strait of Hormuz and Washington continues to carry out retaliatory naval blockades against Iran.
“It is better for us to end this war now because we are in a strong and dignified position,” Pezeshkian said in a meeting with doctors in Iran, as reported by AFP.
“The whole world recognises our victory and emphasises that America has attacked our schools, hospitals and infrastructure in violation of all regulations and is hated throughout the world,” he added.
The comments came after Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused the US of “economic terrorism” and “crimes against humanity”. This was stated after Washington said it would increase sanctions to pressure Tehran.
“The perpetrators and instigators of these sanctions deserve to be tried and punished for committing such heinous crimes,” the ministry said in a statement broadcast by Iranian state media.
