Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday that the latest United States strikes against the country have effectively rendered the ceasefire announced on 8 April ‘meaningless’. Tehran also warned that Washington would be responsible for the consequences of the escalation that has occurred. In a statement, the ministry strongly condemned what it described as massive US strikes on Iran the previous night. Tehran assessed the attack as a ‘blatant violation’ of the United Nations Charter and fundamental principles of international law. ‘The illegal and criminal attacks carried out by the United States in recent hours are not only a clear violation of the UN Charter and fundamental rules of international law regarding respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, but have also effectively made the 8 April 2026 ceasefire meaningless,’ the statement read. Iran’s Foreign Ministry also criticised the use of the territory and facilities of several regional countries by the US military to prepare and launch attacks against Iran. According to Tehran, such actions place those countries ‘on the side of the aggressors’. Iran reiterated that all regional countries have a legal and moral responsibility to prevent their territory, facilities, and resources from being used as bases for attacks against Iran. The ministry also called on all UN member states to firmly oppose what it termed as violations of the UN Charter by the US and Israel. Iran warned that silence and inaction will only worsen global instability and insecurity. Furthermore, Iran urged the UN Security Council and its member states to fulfil their responsibility in maintaining international peace and security. Tehran also requested that UN Secretary-General António Guterres clearly convey the facts related to the ongoing developments. Iran’s Foreign Ministry stressed that issuing general or ambiguous statements amidst what it called ‘clear acts of aggression’ would only encourage further violations of international law.
