Iran Says Trump's Commitment to Ceasefire is 'Paper Thin'
The Chairman of Iran’s Parliamentary Commission for National Security and Foreign Policy, Ebrahim Azizi, has stated that US President Donald Trump has once again demonstrated a lack of commitment to the principles of negotiation and ceasefire. Azizi made the remarks via his X account on Saturday, June 27, following an announcement by US Central Command (CENTCOM) that its forces had struck Iran amid ongoing negotiations. “The reckless violation of the ceasefire, as usual, will ultimately lead to setbacks and regret on their part,” Azizi said. The statement came after CENTCOM announced it had conducted strikes against Iran, a move that occurred while the two nations were engaged in talks to finalise a memorandum of understanding to halt hostilities. The MoU, signed electronically by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, came into effect on 18 June and provides a 60-day window for the two countries to negotiate a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme and the lifting of sanctions.
