Iran Says Trump Faces Difficult Choice After Stalled Negotiations

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has stated that US President Donald Trump is now faced with a difficult choice. The options are an ‘impossible’ military operation or a ‘bad deal’ with Tehran.

Cited from detikNews on Monday (4/5/2026), negotiations between the US and Iran have reached a deadlock since the ceasefire was implemented on 8 April. So far, there has only been one round of direct peace talks.

Iranian news agencies Tasnim and Fars reported that Tehran has submitted a 14-point proposal to mediator Pakistan. However, Trump quickly dismissed it.

“I will immediately review the plan that Iran just sent to us. But I cannot imagine that it will be acceptable because they have not paid a sufficient price for what they have done to humanity, and the world, over the past 47 years,” Trump said via his Truth Social platform.

The US news site Axios reported that the proposal sets a one-month deadline for negotiating a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, end the US naval blockade, and permanently conclude the war in Iran and Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, in a statement, invited Trump to choose. The Guard emphasised that time is running out.

“An impossible operation or a bad deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the Revolutionary Guard’s statement firmly declared.

“The space for US decision-making has narrowed,” they added.

The day before, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi told diplomats in Tehran that the ball is in the US’s court. Whether to choose the path of diplomacy or continue the confrontational approach. He stressed that Iran is prepared for both paths.
