Iran says the Middle East will be transformed after the war
Istanbul (ANTARA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the dynamics of the Middle East, including the management of the Strait of Hormuz, would never be the same following the armed conflict with the United States and Israel.
“The current war has changed everything. We must acknowledge that new realities have emerged,” Araghchi said in a speech at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, as quoted by Press TV on Sunday.
“The shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz will no longer be the same as before, nor will the way the strait is managed,” he added.
Araghchi also said Tehran would welcome “any security plan originating from within the region”.
Tehran and Washington remain at odds over control of the strategic waterway since the war between Iran and the US-Israeli alliance broke out in February.
While Tehran insists on retaining its authority to regulate shipping traffic through the strait, Washington is demanding unrestricted freedom of navigation.
The two countries had previously signed an interim agreement in June to ease the conflict. However, diplomatic negotiations have once again reached an impasse amid rising tensions between the two sides.
