Iran Says Its Assets in Qatar to Be Released Under Agreement
Tehran (ANTARA) - Iranian President Masoud Pezygkian confirmed on Monday the liquidation of $6 billion of Iranian funds held in Qatar. These assets are to be transferred to Tehran.
“In accordance with the implemented programme, approximately six of the 12 billion US dollars (around 107.1 and 214.2 trillion rupiah) of Iranian funds stored in Qatar will be liquidated and moved to our country. Regarding the return of the remaining funds, efforts are underway,” said Pezeshkian, as quoted by his office.
In a statement on 23 June, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Abdolnaser Hemmati, stated that the United States would liquidate the first phase of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets.
On the night of 18 June, Iran and the United States signed a memorandum regulating the termination of the military conflict that began on 28 February.
Furthermore, Iran has pledged not to develop nuclear weapons, while the issue of Tehran’s nuclear programme is to be resolved through a separate agreement.
The parties are set to resume negotiations within 60 days. For Iran, the outcome of these negotiations must result in the lifting of sanctions against their country.
