Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it was conducting a sixth wave of retaliatory strikes in response to American and Israeli bombing operations against Iran. Explosions were reported heard in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Doha, Qatar.

According to reports from Al-Jazeera and AFP on Sunday 1 March 2026, Iran announced it had launched large-scale missile and drone attacks against Israeli and US military bases in the Arab region. The IRGC claimed to have struck 27 US bases, as well as Israel’s Tel Nof air base, the Israeli Army’s command headquarters at HaKirya in Tel Aviv, and a major defence industry complex in the same city.

Iranian forces stated they would implement different and forceful retaliatory measures, with successive strikes to be regretted. Explosions were reported heard in various locations following Iran’s announcement of the strikes.

AFP reported that loud explosions were heard on Sunday morning near Erbil airport, which hosts US-led coalition forces in the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan. Thick black smoke billowed from the airport area.

On Saturday 28 February, US-led coalition forces also shot down several missiles and explosives-laden drones over Erbil.

Israeli military stated it was responding to the Iranian missile attack. Israel activated air raid sirens across central Israel and parts of the occupied West Bank.

“Sirens were activated in several areas across the country, following identification of missiles launched from Iran towards the State of Israel,” the military stated, adding that the air force was “operating to intercept and strike threats as required”.

In addition, several explosions were also heard in Qatar’s capital Doha, as well as Bahrain’s capital Manama. Air raid sirens were also activated in Kuwait. These countries near Iran have long hosted US military forces and combat equipment.
