Iran has retaliated against United States military attacks by launching 13 missiles at a US Marine base in Jordan. The attack by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was carried out despite warnings from US President Donald Trump for Iran to refrain from retaliation.

According to reports on Wednesday (2/9/2026), the IRGC stated that the attack was a response to US military strikes on a wedding celebration in the city of Sirik, southern Iran. The strike resulted in several deaths, including a child.

“In response to this brutal crime, the brave fighters of the IRGC Air Force launched heavy ballistic missile attacks against the American Marine barracks in Jordan, known as Camp Titin,” the statement read.

The IRGC claimed that the missiles struck a large number of troops, military installations, and attack helicopters.

The Jordanian military subsequently stated that it had intercepted 10 of the 13 Iranian missiles launched towards the country. The remaining three missiles landed in open areas.

“The incident was handled in accordance with established operational procedures,” the statement said. “Fortunately, there were no recorded injuries or loss of life.”

Iran Ignores Trump’s Threats

Iran’s attack tests Trump’s latest threat and risks further escalating the conflict. Trump had previously stated that if Iran retaliated against American attacks, Iran would be hit again with much greater and higher intensity.

Fighting flared up again on Tuesday (1/9) morning when the US military bombarded several targets in southern Iran. The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM), based in the Middle East, stated that they had attacked IRGC sites.

“These strikes follow recent attack attempts by the IRGC against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and against US military personnel stationed in the region,” CENTCOM said.

Iran’s semi-official news agency, Tasnim, reported explosions in the south of the country, including in Konarak, Bandar Abbas, and Qeshm Island. The Iranian news agency Fars reported that one strike hit a house in Sirik during a wedding celebration, killing at least four people.
