Iran Reports 11 Dead in Latest US Attacks
Iran and the United States have entered a new period of heightened tension. Iranian authorities stated that the latest US attacks within its territory have killed 11 people.
This was reported by Iranian state media on Wednesday (2/9), following new US strikes in the Khuzestan province in the southwest.
“The Deputy Governor of Khuzestan Province for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs stated that US missile attacks last night at three locations in the province killed seven people and injured eight others,” reported the state-run IRNA, as cited by AFP on Wednesday (2/9/2026).
This follows reports from the Iranian Red Crescent on Tuesday (1/9) that four people, including a child, were killed and more than 50 were injured due to US attacks on a wedding celebration in the Sirik region of southern Iran.
The United States military has announced that its forces struck targets belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) within Iranian territory on Tuesday (1/9) local time. US President Donald Trump has threatened even more devastating attacks should Tehran retaliate.
US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US military operations in the Middle East, announced on Wednesday (2/9/2026) that US forces had completed the latest wave of attacks against Iranian military targets.
“US forces attacked Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (Iran) targets, including air defence locations, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities, and communication sites,” CENTCOM stated via a post on social media platform X on Wednesday (2/9).
“These attacks are in response to recent attempts by the IRGC against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and against US military personnel deployed to the region,” the CENTCOM statement noted.
Iranian state television reported that a series of explosions were heard around Qeshm Island and near the Strait of Hormuz. According to Tehran’s state television, more than five explosions were heard near the village of Mesen on Qeshm Island, while four other explosions were heard from the direction of the Strait of Hormuz.
