Iran Rejects Trump's Claims of Division: No Hardliners or Moderates
Iranian leaders have collectively rejected claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding divisions within Tehran’s governmental system. The leaders affirmed that unity in the Shia nation is “unshakable”.
Iran’s head of the judiciary authority, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, as reported by Al Arabiya on Friday (24/4/2026), sharply criticised Trump in a statement via social media X on Thursday (23/4) local time.
Mohseni-Ejei stated that Trump should “realise that the terms ‘hardline’ and ‘moderate’ are fabricated labels without real basis, commonly used in Western political discourse”.
He added: “All groups and all currents in Iran ultimately maintain cohesion, unity, and their commitment to the directives of the esteemed Supreme Leader.”
Mohseni-Ejei’s criticism was issued after President Masoud Pezeshkian and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf released a joint statement denying any cracks in Iran’s governmental system.
“In Iran, there are no hardliners or moderates. We are all Iranian citizens,” Ghalibaf emphasised in a post via social media X.
“With the unshakable unity between the people and the state, and full obedience to the Supreme Leader, we will make the aggressor regret their actions,” he said.
Pezeshkian also posted an identical statement via his social media X account.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that “the battlefield and diplomacy are two fully coordinated fronts in the same war”.
“The Iranian people are more united than ever,” Araghchi emphasised in a statement via social media X.
These statements from Iranian leaders were made after Trump repeatedly claimed that Iran is now divided into two groups: the “hardline group” and the “moderate group”. This division is seen as hindering efforts to reach an agreement between the US and Iran.
“Iran is in big trouble deciding who their leader is! They really don’t know!” the US President stated.
“The internal bickering between the ‘Hardliners’, who have suffered a crushing defeat on the battlefield, and the ‘Moderates’, who are not really that moderate (but are increasingly respected!), is crazy!” Trump claimed.
