Iran Rejects Negotiations and Refuses Peace with the US
The Iranian ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has stated that Tehran rejects all forms of negotiations with the United States and will not accept mediation offers from any country to defuse the Middle East conflict.
Boroujerdi delivered the remarks at his residence in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026, in response to Indonesia’s readiness, and President Prabowo Subianto’s offer to act as mediator.
“Regarding Indonesia’s proposal, we will not negotiate in any form with the enemy, because we no longer trust the negotiation process,” Boroujerdi said.
He emphasised that Iran has engaged in three previous negotiations with the United States, all of which failed because Washington breached agreements or launched attacks.
The first negotiation concerned the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2015, after which the United States withdrew from the agreement.
The second occurred over five rounds, but in June 2025 the United States attacked Iran.
The third was conducted indirectly with Oman mediating in Geneva, Switzerland; it likewise ended without an agreement before the start of military operations by the US and Iran.
Reflecting on past experience, Boroujerdi stressed that Iran would not reopen room for negotiations and would pursue victory in the current conflict.
“For this time, we will not accept any form of negotiation and we will pursue this war until Iran’s victory,” he asserted.
Beyond Indonesia, Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously offered himself as a mediator. According to the Kremlin, Putin conveyed the offer during talks with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to address concerns over the attacks.
Iran has officially shut the door on dialogue and rejected all mediation attempts to ease tensions in the Middle East.
