Iran Refuses Talks with the US to End the War

The Iranian government has refused to enter talks with the United States to end the war. The announcement came after US President Donald Trump said he was open to resuming discussions about the war in the Middle East.

“Do not be distracted by the mixed signals of the US president – from ‘no negotiations’ to ‘we are ready to talk’,” wrote Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, on the social media platform X, as reported by the AFP news agency on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

“The stakes surrounding oil and the strait have changed. Damage control will not stop what is coming. There will be no talks until Iran’s terms are met. Full stop!” he declared.

The statement came after Trump said on Monday (14/9) local time that he was open to holding talks with Iran. He made the remarks after weeks of saying it was still too early to strike a deal to end the war.

“The beleaguered nation of Iran wants to make a deal, quickly and urgently. I will determine whether the US chooses to engage or not – a concept that remains open to us,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Iran has repeatedly listed a number of demands, including war reparations and the lifting of sanctions, as preconditions for ending the war and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
