Iran Ready to Honour Agreement as Long as US Keeps Its Promises
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has affirmed that Tehran will remain committed to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States, on the condition that Washington consistently fulfils its obligations. Pezeshkian stressed that the success of the agreement’s implementation depends entirely on mutual commitment from both parties.
The statement was made by Pezeshkian via a post on X on Monday (29/6/2026), amid ongoing discussions regarding the technical implementation of the MoU agreed upon by the two countries.
“This understanding is a reciprocal matter. If the American side remains committed to the memorandum, we will also fulfil our commitments,” Pezeshkian wrote in his post.
Pezeshkian asserted that Iran’s foreign policy in the face of various threats and what he termed baseless rhetoric remains grounded in the principle of rationality. He stated that Iran’s decision-making is based on respect for human dignity, coupled with a readiness for firm defence.
According to him, Iran’s approach to what he called irrational rhetoric is to prioritise rationality, but without fear of taking action if necessary to protect national interests.
The statement comes as the implementation of the memorandum of understanding, signed in Islamabad on 18 June, remains the subject of political debate within both countries. The agreement is viewed as crucial because it ended a military confrontation that had escalated over several weeks between Tehran and Washington.
The successful implementation of the initial points of the agreement will determine the course of broader strategic discussions in the future. Several senior officials in Tehran have also warned that if the United States fails to fulfil its promises, the entire framework of the agreement could be jeopardised.
