Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sent a firm message to the United States and Israel amid the relentless aggression from the enemies of the Islamic Republic.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with NBC News from Tehran, Iran, on Thursday 5 March local time, Araghchi firmly rejected fears regarding a potential US ground invasion. He emphasised Iran’s readiness and confidence in defending its sovereignty.

‘There is no, we are waiting for them,’ he said when asked whether he fears the possibility of a US ground invasion. ‘Because we are sure that we can face them, and it would be a major disaster for them,’ he added, reported by Iran’s Press TV on Friday 6 March 2026.

Araghchi underscored that the Iranian armed forces have prepared themselves for every scenario.

The comments come amid the widening war against Iran that began with a large-scale aggression by the US and Israel last Saturday 28 February. Araghchi insisted that Iran has not sought a ceasefire and remains committed to opposing the aggression.

Araghchi also referred to the 12-day war in June last year, when Israel and the US targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities. ‘We did not even seek a ceasefire at that time,’ he said.

‘At the earlier time, it was Israel that asked for a ceasefire… after 12 days we fought back against their aggression,’ he added.

Araghchi also discussed the US-Israel attacks on a primary school in Minab, southern Iran, which killed 171 children.

He fully attributed responsibility to the US and Israel’s militaries. ‘This is what our military says. So, whether it is the US or Israel. What’s the difference?’ he asked, condemning the attack as a grave violation of civilians.

The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed deep disappointment with the negotiations, noting the repeated betrayal by the current US administration.

‘The fact is we have not had a positive experience in negotiating with the United States… especially with this administration,’ Araghchi said.

‘We negotiated twice last year and this year, and then in the midst of negotiations, they attacked us,’ he added.

He further stated that there is no reason to re-engage with parties negotiating in bad faith.
