Moscow (ANTARA) — Iran stated on Sunday that it is prepared to defend itself for as long as necessary and has never requested a ceasefire or negotiations, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

“We have never requested a ceasefire, and we have not even requested negotiations. We are prepared to defend ourselves for as long as necessary,” Araghchi said in an interview with CBS News.

He also called on the United States to understand that attacking Iran will not result in victory.

Araghchi added that several countries have contacted Tehran to request guarantees for safe passage of their vessels.

“I cannot name specific countries, but we have been approached by a number of nations seeking safe passage for their ships. It is within our military’s authority to decide, and they have decided to allow a group of ships from various countries to transit safely and securely,” he said.

He made these remarks whilst responding to the situation regarding communications and discussions with several countries concerning maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
