Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that Tehran will remain committed to the 18 June memorandum of understanding signed with the United States, as long as Washington fulfils its obligations. “This understanding is a reciprocal matter. If the American side remains committed to the memorandum, we will also fulfil our commitments,” Pezeshkian said in a post on X. He stated that Iran’s approach to what he called “nonsensical rhetoric” and threats is based on rationality and human dignity in decision-making, as well as “firm and fearless defence when action is required.” Pezeshkian’s remarks come amid ongoing debate over the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad on 18 June. The agreement ended weeks of military confrontation between Tehran and Washington and established a framework to de-escalate tensions in various conflict zones. The deal includes provisions on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, oil exports, and the release of frozen Iranian assets, while future negotiations on broader issues remain contingent on the implementation of the initial articles. Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that the memorandum is based on mutual commitments and have warned that any failure by Washington to comply could affect the continuation of the process.
