Iran Purchases Rp 10 Trillion in Russian Missiles, Preparing for War Against America?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Iran has reportedly taken a major step to strengthen its air defence. The Financial Times reports a secret agreement worth hundreds of millions of euros between Tehran and Moscow to supply modern missile systems.

In the report, as quoted by Anadolu Agency, Thursday (26/2/2026), Iran is said to have signed a secret missile agreement with Russia worth approximately 500 million euros or almost Rp 10 trillion.

According to information obtained by the newspaper, the agreement was signed in Moscow in December 2025. The agreement aims to help Iran rebuild its air defence system.

Under the agreement, Russia is said to send 500 units of portable Verba launchers and 2,500 9M336 missiles to Iran within three years.

The delivery of missiles, which are part of the approximately 500 million euro transaction, is planned to be carried out in three separate stages between 2027 and 2029.

However, according to several sources quoted in the report, some systems may have been sent to Iran earlier than the planned schedule.

Tehran’s move is said to be directly related to the military escalation that occurred in June 2025, when Israel and the United States launched attacks against Iran, which then triggered a 12-day war.

Following the series of attacks, it was reported that the government in Tehran officially submitted a request for the air defence system to Russia in July 2025.

The request was made to increase Iran’s defence capabilities and protect its strategic facilities after they were targeted in the attacks.

The Verba system is known as one of the most modern air defence systems owned by Russia. The system is designed to be used effectively against cruise missiles and low-flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
