TEHERAN — Russia and China will be among the countries enjoying special privileges when passing through the Strait of Hormuz, said Ebrahim Azizi, Chairman of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in Parliament.

“Strategic countries such as China and Russia will continue to enjoy preferential treatment and favourable conditions regarding the Strait of Hormuz,” Azizi said on Saturday.

He said Russia and China have consistently supported Iran and cooperated with it, working alongside Tehran “during the toughest times.”

Therefore, Azizi stated that both countries will receive special attention when their vessels transit the Strait of Hormuz. The privileges will apply to commercial ships and tankers from Russia and China.

Furthermore, the Iranian parliament committee chairman emphasised that Tehran has full authority to make any decisions regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and no party should question this right.

“The Strait of Hormuz holds specific geopolitical importance for us,” he said.

“This region is part of our territorial and geographical waters. Therefore, Iran has the right to make any necessary decisions regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and no one should challenge this right,” Azizi added.
