Iran President: Success of Negotiations Depends on US Commitment
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that the success of ongoing negotiations with the United States depends on the full implementation of commitments that have been agreed upon. He stressed that statements made outside the framework of the agreement do not help advance the negotiations. “The effectiveness of the talks (with the US) depends on the full commitment to the agreed obligations and their precise implementation,” Pezeshkian wrote on platform X. Pezeshkian added that progress in the process would be measured by tangible compliance with the responsibilities accepted by both parties. “Progress on this path will be measured by practical adherence to the agreed responsibilities. Statements outside the agreed text do not help advance the negotiations,” he said. Iran and the United States previously announced on 14 June that the two countries had reached a 14-point understanding mediated by Pakistan. The agreement aims to end the war and resolve various remaining disputes through dialogue and negotiation. The memorandum of understanding, known as the Islamabad Understanding, came into effect on 18 June after being signed electronically by President Pezeshkian and United States President Donald Trump. The agreement includes a number of provisions related to the cessation of war—including in Lebanon—, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the lifting of the United States naval blockade against Iran.
