Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran is prepared to reassure the international community that it is not developing nuclear weapons or causing regional instability, President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday (24 May).

“Before the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, we stated—and now reaffirm—that we are ready to convince the world we are not developing nuclear weapons,” Pezeshkian said in a statement released by Iran’s official news agency IRNA.

He accused Israel of driving regional instability through its “Greater Israel” vision.

Pezeshkian also stated that Iranian negotiators would never compromise on the country’s “honour and dignity”.

His remarks came a day after US President Donald Trump said a peace agreement with Iran was mostly negotiated and awaiting finalisation.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February. Iran retaliated by striking Israel and US allies in the Gulf region, as well as closing the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire took effect on 8 April through Pakistan’s mediation and was later extended indefinitely by Trump.
