Istanbul - Iran’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that a 14-point peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States has been finalised after being signed by the presidents of both countries. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated on Thursday (18/6) that the ‘Islamabad Memorandum’ has been officially established after being signed by Tehran and Washington, according to the Mehr news agency. He said the agreement will be signed digitally. Baghaei also stressed that negotiations based on the MoU will only focus on the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions. Both parties will hold negotiations for up to 60 days, and this will be extended if necessary given the complexity of the issues discussed. Baghaei said the US commitment to lift its naval blockade took effect after urgent negotiations conducted following Israel’s attack on the southern Beirut area in Lebanon and threats of retaliation from Iran. He added that Iranian ships have been entering and leaving ports ‘without problems’, which he said is a sign that the US commitment is being implemented. Baghaei said Iran’s commitment regarding the Strait of Hormuz will take effect after the MoU is signed and implemented.
