Iran Opens Door to Peace with US, Pezeshkian Reveals Conditions
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian believes the current moment is the best opportunity for Tehran to reach an agreement with the United States. He asserted that Iran’s unity and strength following the conflict are the main assets for resolving disputes through diplomatic channels.
The statement was delivered by Pezeshkian in his second press conference since taking office on Saturday (8/8). According to him, Iran’s domestic conditions, which remain solid, open a significant opportunity for the government to push for the resolution of various outstanding issues with Washington.
“When people talk about reaching a deal, I believe now is the best time because the country remains united, strong, and cohesive. As far as I know, Iran is considered to have emerged from this war and conflict as a victorious and strong party,” Pezeshkian said.
He stressed that armed conflict would not be able to resolve all disputes between the two countries. Therefore, his administration remains committed to achieving peace based on the memorandum of understanding agreed last June. However, he set a condition that the US be willing to abandon the mutual distrust that has so far hampered bilateral relations.
Despite opening room for dialogue, Pezeshkian still levelled sharp criticism at Washington. Quoting the official IRNA news agency, he asserted that diplomacy does not change Tehran’s fundamental view of the United States, which he called a colonialist state.
“The US is a colonialist state, the US is a criminal state, and the Islamic Republic remains the Islamic Republic. There is no doubt about that,” he stressed. He added that the diplomatic path is precisely an instrument that forces the US to return to the negotiating table.
Closing his statement, Pezeshkian dismissed concerns that the memorandum of understanding would harm national interests. He guaranteed that not a single clause in the document requires Iran to surrender its political position or the rights of its people to foreign parties.

Iran has stressed that the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until the US meets its conditions, including the lifting of sanctions, an end to threats, and the withdrawal of troops.
The agreement on the management of the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman is predicted to trigger a surge in world gold prices to US$5,000 per troy ounce and precious metals to Rp3 million.
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan have formed a new defence pact to contain Iran’s influence and reduce dependence on the United States.
The United Arab Emirates has condemned Iran’s missile attack on an ADNOC oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. There were no casualties in the incident.
