Iran Mocks Trump's Latest Economic Operation: A Recycled Scenario!
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said the United States is feeling frustrated after its repeated military and economic pressure campaigns against Tehran failed. Araghchi mocked the latest move, which US President Donald Trump described as a “crippling economic operation”, calling it merely a “recycled old scenario” from Washington’s previous policies towards Tehran. Araghchi stressed that Iran already understands how to deal with it.
In his statement, as reported by Tasnim News Agency on Monday (24/8/2026), Araghchi said the US has used various terms over the years, from “crippling sanctions” during President Barack Obama’s administration to the “maximum pressure” campaign in Trump’s first term and “crushing sanctions” in the current Trump era. According to the Iranian foreign minister, all of these reflect Washington’s long-standing policy of intimidation.
“This is an old film being replayed, and we know the storyline by heart and know how to face and handle it,” Araghchi said while speaking on the sidelines of a visit to the tomb of Iran’s late founder, Imam Khomeini, on Sunday (23/8) local time.
Araghchi further said the US had previously threatened Iran with “military operations” and attacks before ultimately returning to its old plans focused on economic pressure. This shift, according to the Iranian foreign minister, shows Washington’s frustration and inability to find an effective way to deal with Tehran.
“The fact that they are redeploying their old plans, after previously relying on military operations and threats to launch attacks and do this and that, shows that they are desperate,” Araghchi said in his statement. “They are unable to think of any other solution in dealing with the great Iranian people, so they keep putting forward the same old plans.”
Araghchi then stressed that the US should understand there is no other path than treating the Iranian people with respect and pursuing a solution based on justice and dignity. “They must return to the path that has been taken before. The Iranian nation will respond to an attitude that upholds dignity with respect,” he said.
When asked whether Iran fears an economic blockade, Araghchi dismissed the notion and stressed that Tehran has never been intimidated by such measures. “We have never been afraid,” he asserted, adding that all previous US measures, including economic blockades and military action, have failed, and this latest campaign will meet a similar fate.
Last week, Trump declared “war and economic isolation on an unprecedented scale” against Iran. He warned that any country providing “any form of rescue assistance” to Iran would face “VERY SEVERE economic consequences”.
