A new development has occurred in the Middle East. After US President Donald Trump claimed yesterday that negotiations would resume, reports emerged on Wednesday (29/7/2026) that Iran launched a surprise attack on the US military.

“At 5:45 p.m. ET today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces launched several ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack against US forces based in the Middle East,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) wrote in a social media post, as reported by CNN International.

“All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted. US forces remain vigilant and at a high level of readiness,” the statement continued.

This was also confirmed by an unnamed US official. The official stated that initial assessments indicate Iran launched no more than four ballistic missiles.

The attack occurred roughly a day after Trump said the US had halted strikes on Iran and claimed Tehran wanted to open talks. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei denied Trump’s statement.

“We are not currently engaged in negotiations with the United States,” he said.
