Iran Issues Open Letter, Urging US Citizens to Recognise Trump as a Liar
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has released an open letter addressed directly to the people of the United States. In the letter, the IRGC refers to US President Donald Trump as a ‘chronic liar’.
The IRGC accuses Trump of lying to the American people regarding the ongoing war situation against Iran. In the open letter, released ahead of the US mid-term elections this coming November, the IRGC also stated that the Trump administration ‘must be replaced’.
The 26-page English-language open letter, as reported by Reuters and Al Jazeera on Wednesday (30/9/2026), was released by the IRGC in PDF format on Tuesday (29/9) local time. In the letter, the IRGC calls on the American people to ‘wake up’ and ‘reclaim control from corrupt politicians’.
The letter was released approximately five weeks before the US mid-term elections on 3 November, and one day after the war between Iran and the US-Israel alliance entered its seventh month.
‘The American people must wake up. They need to reclaim control from corrupt politicians. Now is the time, as the American political system is at its weakest point,’ the IRGC stated in its open letter, addressed to the ‘honourable people of the United States’.
In its letter, the IRGC attempts to call upon the US people, particularly registered voters, to reject Trump’s policies. The letter also encourages Americans to oppose US support for Iran and involvement in foreign wars.
The IRGC also emphasised to the American people that Iran and the US could coexist if US policies were to change.
The IRGC claimed that the Trump administration has misled the American people regarding the war, Iran’s nuclear programme, and the control of the Strait of Hormuz.
‘They lied—and continue to lie—about Iran’s nuclear weapons programme,’ the IRGC accused in its letter.
‘If Iran were even slightly closer to making a nuclear bomb than 25 years ago, when their technology was far lower than it is now, they should have dozens of nuclear bombs by now; however, American intelligence reports have repeatedly confirmed that Iran does not possess nuclear weapons,’ the letter asserted.
‘The national security of America and the lives of its military members are entrusted to someone who is not only a chronic liar, but also an extremely greedy individual, whose only motivation in life is to accumulate greater wealth,’ the IRGC stated, referring to Trump.
The open letter carefully distinguishes between the US government and its people, attempting to demonstrate common ground between the concerns of voters in both the US and Iran. The IRGC noted that ‘the Iranian and American nations are both victims, each in their own way, of the actions of corrupt politicians’ in the White House.
‘We feel the same suffering,’ the open letter stated.
The letter also addressed the ‘Death to America’ slogan frequently used in Iranian politics. The IRGC explained that the slogan is directed at the US political elite, rather than the American people.
‘Death to America is a prayer for the disappearance of the evil ruling elite situated in the White House,’ the IRGC explained.
The open letter also declared Iran the winner in the war, arguing that the US has failed to achieve any of its set objectives, including efforts to obstruct Iran’s nuclear programme.
This is not the first time Iran has attempted to reach the American people directly. Since the war broke out on 28 February, Iranian-linked media and online networks have used AI to produce Lego-themed videos, memes, and English-language content to promote Tehran’s messages regarding the war.
IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebi, speaking to journalists on Tuesday (29/9), echoed the message of the open letter. However, he assessed that the open letter might influence the stance of the US government approximately five weeks before the mid-term elections.
While Mohebi expressed hope that the message would reach US voters, he subsequently accused Trump of uttering ‘great lies’ to the American people during his term. He argued that most Americans are unaware of the ‘dangers’ of the Trump administration’s campaign.
‘I feel the American people are unaware of this reality. If they knew these facts, they would certainly think differently and would undoubtedly exert pressure on their government,’ Mohebi said.
There has been no response from the White House or Trump regarding the open letter.
