Iran Insists It Will Not Compromise with the US and Israel

Iranian official Mohammad Mokhber, aide to the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday (4 March) said Tehran does not trust the United States and has no reason to negotiate. ‘There is no trust in America, and there is also no reason to bargain,’ he told a television broadcast. Mokhber said Iran is capable of continuing the war, drawing on eight years of experience from the Iran–Iraq War (1980–1988), adding: ‘Our historical experience shows we are not afraid of war; we will not be deterred from continuing it.’ Earlier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed not to allow the attacks launched by the US and Israel on Saturday (28 February) to go unpunished. The strikes targeted several sites inside Iran, including Tehran, with reports of damage and civilian casualties. Government television confirmed that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the attack. Iran subsequently launched ballistic missiles in retaliation at Israel and at US military facilities in the Middle East. The IRGC accused the United States and Israel of attacking schools, hospitals, stadiums, restaurants and wedding halls to panic the Iranian public, saying civilian deaths had surpassed 700. Iran rejected calls to curb its missile programme, though it expressed willingness to negotiate. Tehran emphasised that negotiations would only be possible if conducted on fair and equal terms, conditions it said had not yet been met. Araghchi stressed that dialogue could occur only under fair terms; the ideal conditions for such a dialogue have not yet been met. Airlangga also announced that a team would soon be sent back to Washington, D.C. to advance talks on tariff arrangements between the two states. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s KLH/BPLH reaffirmed its commitment to tackling plastic pollution at international forums. Indonesia maintains good relations with all countries, including the United States. The Turkish Defence Ministry recently said NATO had intercepted ballistic missiles launched from Iran. Sanchez declared the current crisis marks the beginning of a great catastrophe for humanity. At least ten countries are involved in operations ranging from drone strikes to invasions, often multiple times per year. Iran is the third-largest producer in the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), producing around 4.5% of global oil supply.
