Iran insists ceasefire with US must include Lebanon
The Iranian government has stated that the ceasefire with the US must encompass ‘all fronts, including Lebanon,’ and has called on the US and Israel to bear responsibility for ‘the consequences of any violation.’ ‘For immediate attention: The ceasefire between Iran and the US explicitly covers all fronts, including Lebanon. A breach on one front constitutes a violation of the ceasefire across all fronts,’ wrote Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on X on Monday (1 June). ‘The US and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation,’ he warned. His statement came after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei warned on Monday morning that Tehran would not hesitate to assist Lebanon against Israel’s ‘illegal aggression’ against the country. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered military strikes on Beirut on Monday in a new escalation, despite a US-mediated ceasefire that has been in effect since 17 April. Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in February. Tehran responded with attacks targeting Israel and US allies in the Gulf, alongside the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire began on 8 April through Pakistani mediation, but subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has openly ordered the military to take control of 70% of the Gaza Strip. Palestinian Muslims celebrated Eid al-Adha 1447 AH at Al-Aqsa Mosque as Israeli aggression continued following the breach of the October 2025 ceasefire. US-Iran relations have suddenly thawed. Donald Trump stated that a 14-point peace deal draft is nearly final, including plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump threatened to launch new attacks on Iran in the coming days if peace talks fail to reach an agreement. Iran warned it would open a new front if attacked again by Israel and the US, while reaffirming its control over the Strait of Hormuz. Trump dismissed the criticism as ‘chirping’ or chatter, claiming it was at an unprecedented level. According to reports by Fars news agency and other Iranian state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated the actions were in response to US attacks. On 28 February, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on several targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
