Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has welcomed what he termed a ‘historic’ agreement with the United States to end the war. ‘This is a historic document and a message from a strong Iran: peace will be achieved under the umbrella of mutual respect,’ Pezeshkian said in a social media post featuring an image of the agreement document. The document bears the signatures of Pezeshkian, US President Donald Trump, and their mediator, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Trump reportedly signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles following the G7 summit.

Separately, the Iranian government confirmed the signing of the agreement to end the war with the US. However, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei warned that implementing the ceasefire agreement would be more challenging than its signing. ‘The fact that we have signed an agreement to end the war at this stage does not mean we have forgotten the past or abandoned the valuable lessons we have learned,’ Baghaei stated. He emphasised that Iran’s task is now harder than before, as implementing international agreements is always more difficult than drafting them, especially with parties that do not commit to their obligations. Baghaei stressed that Iran would closely monitor Washington’s compliance and would not hesitate to respond reciprocally if the US failed to implement its commitments.
