Iran Furious as Israel Strikes Lebanon: Negotiations with US Are Pointless

The Iranian government has strongly condemned Israel’s attack on Beirut, Lebanon, stating that the strike makes negotiations with the United States to end the war pointless. Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said there is no use in continuing peace talks with the US after Israel, a close American ally, failed to halt its attacks on Lebanon. “The Zionist aggression against Dahieh once again demonstrates that the United States either lacks the will to implement its commitments or lacks the ability to do so,” Ghalibaf said, as reported by AFP. Iran has repeatedly included peace in Lebanon as a condition for peace with the US, but these efforts have been ignored by Israel. “If you do not have the will or the ability to fulfil your commitments, then there is no point in discussing the continuation of this path,” Ghalibaf explained. A senior official at the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Sardar Asadi, said the Israeli air strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs would be met with retaliation. “Without a doubt, this crime will not go unanswered,” Asadi said, according to Iran’s Mizan news agency. Khatam al-Anbiya is the central joint command headquarters overseeing Iran’s armed forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the regular army. The Israeli military launched the latest strikes on Lebanese territory, with missiles reportedly hitting Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut. Lebanon’s Civil Defence agency said it had recovered three bodies after the strikes hit the Ghoebeiry area in the city’s southern suburbs. The National News Agency reported 15 people were injured and significant damage was caused to surrounding buildings and shops.
