Iranian military forces have launched a fresh aerial assault on a United States military base in the Middle East. The attack is the first since both countries agreed to a brief pause in hostilities.

“At 5:45 PM local time today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched a number of ballistic missiles from Iran in a surprise attack against US forces based in the Middle East,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (29/7/2026).

The US military reported no significant damage from the latest Iranian attack. It stated that all missiles fired by Iran were intercepted.

“All incoming Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted,” the statement added, without specifying which region was targeted.

Both sides had halted attacks over the weekend, following nearly two weeks of overnight strikes by the United States against Iran and repeated barrages of missiles and drones by Tehran targeting Washington’s allies in the Gulf region.

The escalation in fighting in mid-July occurred after Iran attacked several vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices had temporarily slumped following the weekend lull in fighting. US President Donald Trump had previously spoken of a significant opportunity for negotiations with Iran to end the conflict.
