Iran Executes Two ISIS Members

Iranian authorities have executed two people found guilty of being members of the Islamic State (ISIS) group. “Following the final ruling of the Supreme Court and in accordance with legal procedures, two members of the Islamic State terrorist group, Mohiyodin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani, were hanged this morning,” the judiciary news website Mizan Online reported, as cited by AFP news agency on Tuesday (14/7/2026). The website did not mention the date of their arrest or the legal proceedings against them. According to Mizan, the two men “planned to launch terrorist operations” in the country and were sentenced to death for “armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic”. ISIS has claimed several attacks against Iran in recent years. Iran executes more people annually than any other country except China, according to human rights groups including Amnesty International. Authorities have increased executions in the country since the start of the Middle East war, triggered by the United States-Israel attack on Iran on 28 February.
