Iran envoy praises Indonesia’s role in Mideast peace
Speaking at a gathering with Indonesian Islamic figures in Jakarta on Friday, he acknowledged the government’s swift response in expressing its willingness and readiness to serve as a peace facilitator in the region.
He said Indonesia’s commitment to easing tensions marks an important step toward fostering lasting stability and peace in the Middle East.
Boroujerdi also expressed appreciation for Indonesian Islamic scholar Din Syamsuddin, who attended the meeting.
He noted that the head of the Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations has made significant contributions to promoting sustainable peace at both regional and global levels.
The ambassador urged Muslims, particularly in Indonesia, to unite in opposing narratives supporting United States and Israeli military actions.
He said Muslims should stand together against threats and conflicts involving Israel and the United States, adding that hostility associated with Zionism is not limited to Islam.
Boroujerdi said the Israeli government opposes not only Islamic teachings but also Christianity and Jewish groups that do not align with Zionism. He also referred to restrictions imposed by Israel that prevent Muslims from praying at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Syamsuddin echoed the ambassador’s call, urging unity among Islamic organizations, the public, and the Indonesian government in responding to the Middle East situation.
“This is not the time to dwell on our differences, whether Sunni or Shia, Arabs or Persians. We are fellow Muslims taught by our religion to uphold brotherhood,” he said.
