Tehran — Iran has detained “500 spies” working for “enemies” and “anti-Iran media,” including those who provided intelligence for attacks against Iran, said Ahmad Reza Radan, Iran’s security chief, on Sunday (15 March).

“Iran has detained 500 spies who sent information to enemies and anti-Iran media,” Radan said, according to the Fars news agency.

He added that 250 of those detained provided information about attacks and “had relations with certain groups, and attempted to disturb public order.”

Iran has attacked Israeli territory and American military targets in the Middle East in retaliation for a joint military operation launched by the US and Israel on 28 February.

The first day of the military operation resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and a girls’ school in southern Iran was also devastated after being bombed by American forces.

Iran estimates the death toll has exceeded 1,300 persons.
