Iran Denies Trump's Peace Deal Claim, Calls It a Tactical Retreat
Iran’s highest authority has firmly denied a unilateral claim by the United States regarding the achievement of a peace agreement to end the total war in the Middle East on Thursday (11/06/2026). Through the state-run media outlet Fars, Tehran asserted via Telegram that it has not yet agreed to any draft text related to the initial memorandum of understanding (MOU) proposed by Washington.
Fars assessed that Washington’s sudden announcement was a tactical retreat from military threats after failing to impose new clauses into a draft agreement previously proposed by Iran. The outlet stated that rather than providing a final agreement response, the situation at the negotiating table shows that it is the American side that has softened and been forced to return to its original demands.
“The reality that has occurred so far is that not only has Iran not given a final response, but it is the American side that has actually returned to their previous demands,” Fars wrote in an official translated report on the diplomatic confrontation between the two countries.
Nevertheless, Fars indicated that the diplomatic process is not entirely dead. Tehran sees an opportunity to re-examine the draft because the White House ultimately agreed to soften its stance and accept the text proposed by the Iranian side. “Of course, it seems that given that the US has accepted the text proposed by Iran, there is a possibility to re-examine this text,” Fars added, giving a slim green light for peace prospects in the Gulf region.
This sharp reaction and denial from Tehran emerged shortly after US President Donald Trump unilaterally claimed in the Oval Office that the two countries had reached a major deal, pending only the finalisation of official documents. Trump expressed optimism that the historic signing ceremony would take place within the coming days and promised to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz for global energy supply routes.
“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I, as President of the United States, have cancelled the schedule of attacks and bombing against Iran tonight,” Trump stated in an official post on his social media platform Truth Social, explaining the reason for the military operation’s cancellation.
In fact, just hours before claiming peace, Trump had posted terrifying threats on his social media, stating that the US military would strike Iran “very hard tonight” and was preparing to seize Kharg Island to gain total control of the Persian nation’s oil and gas market. As a show of force, Trump also emphasised that the naval blockade operation against Iran’s logistical ports in the Gulf of Oman would remain fully enforced until the peace transaction is officially finalised by both parties.
