Iran Denies Trump's Claim, Insists Hormuz Strait Under Its Full Control

Iran has strongly denied a claim by United States President Donald Trump that the US holds control over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s military described Trump’s statement as a lie and a fabrication.

“The false claim by the United States that ships are transiting the Strait of Hormuz normally is nothing more than a lie and a fabrication,” said Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, in a statement reported by AFP on Thursday.

Zolfaghari insisted the strategic waterway remains under the full management and control of the Islamic Republic. “The Strait of Hormuz, as in the past, is under the full management and control of the Islamic Republic of Iran; no commercial vessel or tanker can safely transit this strait without the permission and supervision of Iran’s armed forces,” he said in a video broadcast by state television.

The strait remains closed following the recent conflict, with no agreement yet reached to end the war. Iran’s Foreign Minister stated that the US had made a miscalculation regarding the waterway. “The United States has long made miscalculations due to intelligence failures. The claim about the Strait of Hormuz is a far greater miscalculation,” he wrote on platform X.

Tehran confirmed that discussions are underway with Oman to establish a new routing system, but stressed that negotiations have not yet concluded. Iran maintains that even if a new route is agreed upon, the shipping lanes will not be reopened unless the US meets Iran’s conditions.

Trump had previously claimed on his Truth Social platform that the US had full control over the strait. “The United States has full control of the Strait of Hormuz. I THINK WE WILL KEEP IT!” Trump wrote. He added that the US naval blockade was a ‘Wall of Steel’ that Iran could not fight against.
