Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran has refuted claims by the United States that its defence systems have been destroyed. Tehran asserted on Thursday that its armed forces remain “fully prepared” and capable of confronting various threats. According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, Armed Forces spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi dismissed claims that his country’s defence capabilities had been weakened. “Do not fixate on the enemy’s claims; what matters is the reality on the battlefield,” Shekarchi said. He stated that Iran continues to strengthen its military capabilities despite facing ongoing threats and is currently “militarily stronger than at the beginning” of the war, which he said was imposed on the country. Earlier, US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran’s military had been destroyed through airstrikes conducted by Washington and Tel Aviv. Shekarchi also denied claims that Iran’s missile stockpiles have been depleted. According to him, such accusations are aimed at gathering information about Iran’s military capabilities. “We have always said we are ready, and the enemy has felt that readiness on the battlefield,” Shekarchi added. The spokesman acknowledged that Iran suffered some losses, but stressed that Iranian forces inflicted greater losses on US forces. He also reaffirmed Iran’s support for Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to Shekarchi, the so-called “axis of resistance” remains united in confronting Israel and its allies. When asked about the possibility of closing the Bab al-Mandab Strait, Shekarchi said Iran has “many plans” and will reveal its options if necessary.
