Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday criticised French President Emmanuel Macron for what he deemed a failure to respond to attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure, amid escalating conflicts involving the United States and Israel.

Macron had previously stated on social media that he had spoken with US President Donald Trump and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani regarding Iran’s attack on gas facilities in Qatar.

He called for a ban on attacks against civilian infrastructure.

However, Araghchi viewed Macron’s position as inconsistent.

“Macron has not uttered a single word to condemn the US-Israel war against Iran. He also did not condemn Israel when it blew up a fuel tank in Tehran that endangered millions of people. His concern only emerges now after Iran retaliates. Sad!” he wrote on the X platform.

On Wednesday, Qatar’s state-owned energy company, QatarEnergy, reported a missile attack and fire in the Ras Laffan industrial area in the north of the country, which is the location of Qatar’s largest liquefied natural gas production complex.

On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.

Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East region.

Initially, the US and Israel described the attacks as “preemptive” measures against threats from Iran’s nuclear programme. However, both later also expressed a desire to see a change of power in Iran.
