An Indonesian citizen studying in Tehran, Iran, has reported that academic activities at his university have been suspended due to escalating conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel. Hukkam, a 25-year-old Indonesian national, stated that his campus was closed for seven days beginning on 2 Ramadhan, with no clear indication of when operations would resume.

Beyond academic disruption, the intensifying conflict has also affected communications infrastructure in Iran. The government has implemented restrictions on internet access, severely hampering communication capabilities. Hukkam noted that messages sent via WhatsApp often took an entire day to be delivered.

Despite the escalating tensions, Hukkam observed that daily life in Tehran’s capital remained relatively normal, with shops selling essential goods continuing to operate late into the evening and residents maintaining their routine activities. However, the conflict has resulted in significant price increases for basic necessities.

“Prices have risen due to economic instability caused by the conflict,” Hukkam explained.

Hukkam expressed hope that the situation in Iran would improve soon so he could resume his studies. “If conditions become safe, I hope to return to Iran,” he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesian authorities have launched an evacuation operation for citizens wishing to return home. Twenty-two Indonesian nationals arrived at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport on 10 March 2026 at 18:09 local time, with another ten scheduled to depart Iran the following day. Officials have stated that the government continues to accept evacuation requests, with approximately 36 Indonesian citizens already registered for subsequent evacuation waves.
