Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday (11/9) that the latest United States attacks against the country have effectively rendered the ceasefire announced on 8 April “meaningless”. Tehran also warned that Washington would be responsible for the consequences of the ensuing escalation.

In a statement, the ministry strongly condemned what it described as a massive US assault on Iran the previous night. Tehran assessed the attack as a “blatant violation” of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles of international law.

“The illegal and criminal attack carried out by the United States in recent hours not only constitutes a clear violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental rules of international law regarding respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, but has also effectively rendered the 8 April 2026 ceasefire meaningless,” the statement read.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also criticised the use of territory and facilities belonging to several regional countries by the US military to prepare and launch attacks against Iran. According to Tehran, such actions place those countries “on the side of the aggressors”. Iran reiterated that all regional countries have a legal and moral responsibility to prevent their territory, facilities and resources from being used as a base for attacks against Iran.

In its statement, Tehran stressed that Iran remains determined to neutralise the sources of attacks against its country and will exercise what it calls its “inherent right to self-defence” in the face of US military aggression and that of its allies. The ministry also called on all UN member states to firmly oppose what it described as violations of the UN Charter by the US and Israel.

Iran warned that silence and inaction would only exacerbate global instability and insecurity. Furthermore, Iran urged the UN Security Council and its member states to fulfil their responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security. Tehran also asked UN Secretary-General António Guterres to clearly convey the facts regarding the ongoing development of the situation. The Iranian Foreign Ministry asserted that issuing general or ambiguous statements amid what it called “clear acts of aggression” would only encourage further violations of international law.

If Washington is genuinely interested in a diplomatic solution, it must abandon the language of threats and engage in dialogue with Iran on the basis of mutual respect.
