Iran confirms memorandum of understanding with US finalised, ready for signing on 19 June
The Iranian government has confirmed that a peace agreement has been reached with the United States, and the signing of the accord will take place in Switzerland on 19 June. “The text of the memorandum of understanding has been finalised, and the official signing of the document will take place in Switzerland on Friday,” said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi in a live broadcast on Iranian television. The United States will also lift its naval blockade against Iran starting Monday evening, 15 June, he said. He confirmed that the US-Iran peace agreement includes the cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, also beginning Monday evening. Nevertheless, he stressed that the agreement does not mean Iran places trust in the American side. “This memorandum of understanding does not signify any trust in the opposing party. This memorandum of understanding was drafted without a foundation of trust. We will monitor the actions of the United States and the fulfilment of its obligations,” he stated. Gharibabadi added that after the signing of the memorandum of understanding on 19 June, Iran and the United States will discuss a number of important issues, including the lifting of sanctions, the nuclear issue, and economic recovery efforts.
